OK People...chill out....Yes movies are expensive BUT....We have a dollar movie theater here...The movies may be a bit older but still worth seeing. Bring a backpack or shoulder bag and sneak in your popcorn that you popped at home. Bring a can of soda from home. Sorry...but we all have to cut corners somewhere. What are they gonna do? Arrest us? I think not....

They only get to keep 10% of the box office receipts. They make their money at the concession and it's a joke because you are paying sky high prices for goodies that cost 80 to 90% on the outside. Anyone who go's to a theatre today is a fool. And the reason that you see poor quality presentations is because the managers are running the shows, not experienced motion picture operators who give good presentations.

Why pay the big bucks for a movie theater movie. wait a year and it will be on DVD for only a
3.00 rental - plus all the popcorn and soda you want from your own kitchen! These days I cannot
go to the movies as is too expensive. Haven't been in about 4 years.... No specials at my theater.....
The last time I went to the movies, they wanted 6 bucks for a big box of popcorn. I couldn't believe it. Absolutely outrageous.

I retired to NC where movie tickets are 5 bucks day and 7 at night. You can buy a beautiful new house with 2500 sq ft for under 300K , and taxes are minimal." NYC a great place to visit but I don't want to live there" has never been truer. I pity you folks there. I say, leave NYC to the rich and the poor because there isn't much else in between.

The Europeans show more well-thought out stories in art-houses than the hollywood junk we're getting today. It's more a contest of the back-lot special effects shops than story content.
Ask yourself when was the last time you saw a movie promo cut out in the lobby with a star that DIDN'T have a gun in his or her hand. And,for that matter, will Angelina Jolie, doll that she is, when will she STOP making the same movie, over and over and over again.
I'll tell you when, when the public stops shelling out bucks to see her in tight skin outfits.
I read your post. Good one. My post is near yours. As you may see...I realize everything you say is true. It is all about sales tricks to make money...and theaters know how to do this. they have to...inorder to stay open...it is all business. Movies are expensive if you just casually go and don't pay attention to ways you can save. some people have the money to be that way. that is fine...good for them. My wife have to try and be more frugal...especially because we are ''not'' loaded and we like to do so many things and the expenses add up. The more we can save, the more we can do! There is only one way a consumer can truly save going to movies...and that is to do it the way we do or simularly...and that is by getting knowedgeable about all the programs and saving opportunities a theater offers and taking full advantage of them. I hope you got the humor of my post...I like to screw with people on these blogs. Again...your post truly sounded as if you knew what you were talking about. You amy be an expert of understanding the business aspect of theaters...my wife and I conside ourselves experts on going to them. You should see the looks on the faces of some of the cashiers at AMC when they see the point totals on our MovieWatcher cards. I often have to tell them how to do their job and point out the mistakes they made when ringing us up. There is bad help everywhere, though...not just movies theaters.

July 23 2010 at 12:04 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyYou are all stupid and I know everything. My wife and I go to the movies sometime 4 times a week. We virtually go to a local AMC almost exclusely. We like the theaters. They have numerous upgraded ''Fork and Screen" choices for many of the popular current moives at the particular AMC we go to...not all of them do.. We like these becsue we can order real food and also alcoholic drinks...including pitchers of beer. However...we never go on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday unless it is with one of the ''free'' movie passes we ''earn'' through thier ''MovieWatcher'' program. The admission is full price (over $10) on those days so we usually don't go then. This offer is ''not'' for ''free'' ''anything''...the popcorn and drinks are $1...not free...plus it is only for Sunday..''and'' you pay full price for the show. They ''really'' are not doing anyone much of a favor here. Do yourself a favor and go Monday thru Thurdasy when they offer all admission all day for only 45 for any movie including the Fork and Screen...for those they make you also spend an additional $7.50...but that total amount is deducted from your food bill. It really is not that bad of a deal...and their food is pretty good. Plus..on Wednesday...they ''do'' give out ''free'' popcorn. Go on Wednesday for the best deal. I know everything...remember (?)...and I know you will hate me for that.....and I hate you just as much in return...but don't acuse me for not sharing. You are welcome. Hopefully those that know as much as I do will realize my bad comments were not meant for them...that is why we know everything. Don't let AMC trick you...they are very good at taking advantage of stupid people. We go see so many movies that it is hard for us to pick out one we have not seen. We accumulate so many free things from the AMC MovieWatcher club that we have a stack of unused offers to choose from each time we go...including several we have won for free movies...that can be used on Fri Sat or sun. Also..one more ''key''tip. The free popcorn coupon they give you on Wednesday (to each person) is honored on other days you go...even though it says right on it.."for this Wednesday only"..so if you share your popcorn...save the other coupon for another day. It adds up. They also let you upgrade ''any'' coupon for free small popcorn or drink to larger sizes for $1 more for a medium and $2 more for a large. These are all much bigger savings than paying full price for the show on Sunday and getting $1 for a samll drink or popcorn. Stupid people do not get math like this. Most of this advice will go right over thier heads. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.
