Fortunately, Barratt intuitively knew what to do. "I walked a few steps toward her, picked her up, and walked in the other direction," she explains, "I just thought I shouldn't do anything to excite the tiger." When asked if they'll ever go back, Barratt replies, "No, we're not going to be renewing our annual pass." Apparently, Dianita had no idea she was in danger as the tiger stared her down, "She was just standing there, looking at the tiger," Barratt explains.

I think there is a parable here. The mother kept her cool, thinking of how she must not excite the tiger and calmly, slowly led her child away from the danger. A "mama grizzly", however, would have thoughtlessly charged in endangering both her child and herself.

Wild (or tame) animals should not be caged. Leave them alone. We lock up murderers, thieves and other folks who abuse our laws and rights. These animals are doing their natural thing. We should never have zoos, birds in cages, etc.) These animals do not live only for us, but for themselves, as well. That is also true of our domesticated animals, such as dogs and cats. If people want to show their children what a tiger looks like, buy them a nice book with big pictures.
Watching the video for ten seconds gave a clue as to why this child faced such a dangerous encounter. Children of all ages have to be in the care of their parents 24/7. Irresponsible parenting causes much of the problems we face on a daily basis. Especially on the news.

September 05 2010 at 2:39 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWow!!! People who read what is written. Not all of America has dumbed-down. The problem is that if you just text, or don't read a newspaper, least of all, read a book you aren't going to know what language mistakes you will come upon. The additional problem besides bad grammar, language, et al is to have to watch a commercial before you look at the cited news?? item. Not only do I pay a monthly charge to have AOL (or whatever carrier one uses) I now become a captive audience and have to wait for the ad copy to finish, and then I have to wait until the cited article appears. 'Nuff said.

He WAS..obviously NOT hungry nor in the HUNT mode these creatures are held captive year after year in their human designated size enclosures to keep them safe from well HUMANS! He came to the child stopped it was at his eye level and location what's this? He wasn't an angry tiger that was lashing out at anthing and anyone in it's path so that is a good indicator it is NOT abused but it's instincs still make it curious. It is the fault of Humans here NOT the tiger. No one ncluding the tiger before this situation realized it could just jump over the enclosure.
I am glad to see the baby is safe and so is the MOM .It is unfortunate Kids DO need exposure to the outdoors, to creatures, to learn to explore and appreciate them and the beauty of nature BEFORE we destroy it ALL!!!
That is one lucky little girl. Remember Sigfreid and Roy?
September 05 2010 at 1:14 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Reply@ Nixtr: You made reference to "an illiterate president" recently...do you not more correctly refer to the current one who pronounced "corpsman" as "corpse man" and referred to all our "57" states...or perhaps to the former VP/Nobel laureate who annoounced that the earth's core was "millions of degrees" hot?
I agree with statements that we need to restore proper use of the English language--and to eliminate the gutter talk and vulgarities, while we're at it. Good proofreaders seem to be at a premium nowadays. Even though our educational system is failing us, individuals ought to be self-aware and responsible enough to realize their own mistakes by simple attention and awareness...by caring.
As for the tiger incident, somehow I never had heard about it, even though I live less than a mile away from the location of the incident, which, thank God, ended happily.
