This morning, Kelly reads a children's picture book in which the characters are named after the stars of 'Live with Regis and Kelly.' Holding a copy of 'It's a Book' by Lane Smith, Kelly explains that the book's three principle characters are named after Regis, Gelman, and herself. "This is 'It's a mouse,' that's Kelly. 'It's a jackass,' that's Gelman. 'It's a monkey,' that's Regis," she narrates. Regis is perfectly okay with being the story's techno-illiterate monkey character, saying "I'm glad I got the monkey and not the jackass!"

Kelly the proceeds to read the tongue-in-cheek kids book to the audience just like she reads to her children at bedtime. In the story, the jackass can't comprehend why the monkey likes reading books. "Can you blog on it?" Gelman the jackass asks. To every question, Regis the monkey answers, "It's a book."
