Sarah White, Therapist? 24-Year-Old Helps Patients Open Up by Getting Naked

JM Darling
Sarah White, therapist, found that the field of psychology was lacking something: sex.

"I felt early on that something was missing from classical therapy. It seemed to encourage repression as opposed to encouraging people to open up," the 24-year-old New Yorker told the New York Daily News.

With that idea in mind, White started conducting naked therapy sessions. For $150, White will essentially take her clothes off while she listens to your problems. But she doesn't get naked right away. She initially speaks with patients through a one-way webcam and text chat. Then after building a rapport with the client, Sarah White moves to Skype video appointments and even has in-person meetings for certain cases. The alleged point of this method? To show that she has nothing to hide so that the client won't be hesitant to share.

"The goal is to show patients I have nothing to hide and encourage them to be more honest," she's said. "For men in particular, seeing a naked woman can really help them focus, look deeply into themselves and speak their minds openly. Freud used free association. I use nakedness."

Though she's not a licensed therapist, her roster already has about 30 patients who come to her with everything from their sexual problems to relationship issues (though we imagine this might create some more).

With no credentials and the fact that this technique isn't approved by any mental health organization, professionals in the field find White's tactics just a way to exploit sex.

"She's using the word 'therapy' here, but I don't consider this therapy," clinical psychologist Diana Kirschner said. "I consider this interactive softcore Internet porn."

The American Pyschoanalytic Association deems any sexual interaction between therapists and their patients, including any physical contact, highly unethical. White claims she doesn't have physical contact during her sessions and explained, "It's not like I'm having relationships with any of my patients."
