FDA Mulls Food Dye/ADHD Link
Are the dyes in brightly colored processed foods like Jell-O, Lucky Charms and Gatorade making our kids hyperactive? The question has been raised at least since the 1970s – with no definitive proof either way -- but on Wednesday an FDA advisory committee is formally considering whether to explore the link between food dyes and behavior changes in children and to take action toward regulating these ingredients, Health.com reports. The impetus for the FDA's action is a petition by a consumer watchdog group asking the agency to ban eight food dyes found in many of the processed foods that line grocery store shelves – from macaroni-and-cheese mixes to energy beverages to popular cereals.
