The mascot for the Philadelphia Phillies gave the performance of a lifetime on Wednesday, after he got drilled in throat by a foul ball. 'Today' anchor Savannah Guthrie gives the play-by-play as footage from the game shows the furry green Phillie Phanatic doing his thing. "Maybe it's just an occupational hazard of being a baseball mascot. The Phillie Phanatic was hamming it up in the stands at a minor league game when a foul ball conked him right in the throat," Guthrie narrates. Slow motion footage shows the Phanatic taking a baseball square in the Adam's apple and then very theatrically collapsing in the stands.

"The Phanatic played it off like a pro, faking a very dramatic death for fans," Guthrie explains. "Tom Burgoyne, who's the man in the furry suit for nearly two decades, he was taken to the emergency room, released, and he says he's doing fine."
